New trends in the changes of administrative boundaries in Poland

The objective of the study is to determine leading trends in changing administrative boundaries Poland. Based on 194 Regulations Council Ministers concerning changes and granting city status, which covered a total 1,383.8 sq. km, multidimensional analyses for years 2010–2020 were conducted, their results referred territorial reforms Europe provided basis selecting trends, including: (1) ‘new wave’ restitution status (from 2018 new fast-track mode), resulting quantitative within 3rd-tier units, (2) significant increase area cities counties primarily caused by annexations suburban zones establishing cities, (3) politicisation process boundaries, especially preceding local government elections. trend unit fragmentation observed 1990s has disappeared. initiators are still predominantly elites rarely inhabitants communes.
